The Allen area was originally home to the Comanche, Caddo and other native peoples. The first European immigrants arrived in the early 1840s. By the 1870s Allen water station was established for the railroad. The town was named for Ebenezer Allen it was a state politician. Legend has it that Allen was the site of Texas’ first train robbery in 1878 by Sam Bass and his gang. Allen was a short ride from their hideouts in the Elm Trinity brush lands.
Today Allen is a rapidly growing community and the farthest point northeast in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Developmental Learning Materials and InteCom, Inc. relocated to Allen in the 1980s, leading the way for many corporate startups and relocations. The city is now focused on future growth for the ever expanding Dallas-Fort Worth area.
